A 32-year-old woman, who allegedly stabbed her brother on Sunday last during a heated argument when she tried to stop him from beating his reputed wife, was slapped with a manslaughter charge.
Lashena Morgow of Parika Backdam, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), was hauled before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Wales Magistrate’s Court.
She was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which alleged that on November 22, 2020, at Parika Backdam, EBE, she unlawfully killed Alex Morgow. She was granted bail in the sum of $250,000, and the matter was adjourned until December 16, 2020.
Reports are that Alex shared his home with his common-law wife, Lashena, and her son. At around 10:00hrs, they all left the market for another location at First Koker, Parika, where the accused started to consume alcohol. They spent about two hours there, then left for home.
On arriving home at about 17:30hrs, Alex and his wife had an argument over food that she prepared for him, which resulted in him pushing her to the ground.
While on the ground, he kicked and slapped her in his sister’s presence, who intervened. She questioned her brother about what he was doing, which resulted in an argument and a physical altercation.
Lashena then ran to the kitchen, where she picked up a knife and rushed back to Alex, and continued arguing. Lashena then dealt Margow a stab to his left side chest and pulled out the knife. He stumbled outside and fell to the ground.
An alarm was raised, and the police were summoned. The 32-year-old woman was arrested, and a search was conducted, which revealed the suspected murder weapon in a black and white handbag she was carrying.
