President Dr. Irfaan Ali says that the Government is working to fulfil the promise of an alternate road link between Diamond and Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD) which is expected to reduce traffic congestion along the East Bank corridor.
The project was first initiated by former President, Donald Ramotar and is expected to be completed soon.
“As promised by the end of April, an alternate link between Diamond and Eccles. Your Government at work for you,” the Head of State announced on his official Facebook page yesterday.
The road link project is part of the President’s push for infrastructural development, which was championed in the PPP/C’s manifesto.
This road is among a number of other road projects on stream, including the Ogle to Diamond bypass road, which is also expected to reduce the traffic snarl along the EBD public road.
The East Coast-East Bank Linkage Project will extend from Ogle to Haags Bosch. Previously the new, four-lane road was expected to end at Diamond. The extension would allow taxpayers to save approximately US$158 million.
Guyanese can also expected to benefit from infrastructural transformation and spin-off benefits from the construction of a four-lane highway in Region Three, from the new Demerara Harbour Bridge to Parika.
