ExxonMobil’s subsidiary, Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Limited, announced moments ago that the gas compressor system for the Liza Destiny vessel has malfunctioned and would therefore be forced to increase its flaring levels.
Expounding in this regard, the company said that there was technical issue regarding a seal on the gas compressor which will obviously result in the operator having to temporarily increase its burning of gas above pilot levels in order to maintain safe operations.
“We are disappointed that this unexpected issue has occurred and we’re working diligently with the vessel’s owner and the equipment vendor to understand and fix the issue as quickly as possible,” said Alistair Routledge, President of ExxonMobil Guyana.
Guyana Standard understands that the relevant government authorities have been informed about this matter.
