In light of allegations of excessive spending and misallocation of funds, Prime Minister, Moses Nagamootoo ordered that there be an immediate investigation into the financial status of the Guyana National Newspapers Limited (GNNL)–Guyana Chronicle.
These instructions were passed on earlier today to GNNL Chairperson Geeta Chandan-Edmund and General Manager Sherod Duncan during an emergency meeting.
Also, Nagamootoo firmly addressed the dismissal of GNNL’s Finance Controller, Moshamie Ramotar. Guyana Standard understands that Duncan fired Ramotar less than 24 hours ago.
However, Nagamootoo resinded the dismissal.
“The Chair and the GM agreed that the letter of termination issued to the Finance Controller will be immediately rescinded and that the Board should determine the appropriate course of action that could follow,” a statement from PM’sOffice said
It is believed that Duncan fired Ramotar because he thinks she leaked information on $5M spent over three months since he took over.
Duncan allegedly requested a rocking chair for his office and other commodities.
The Prime Minister instructed that a full investigation be conducted by the Board on both the dismissal and the excessive spending. Also, Nagamootoo requested that a report be presented to him, as subject minister, upon completion of the investigations. A date for the completion of the investigation is to be determined.
