Opposition Leader, Joseph Harmon has written to India’s Minister of External Affairs, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar objecting to the proposed appointment of former Alliance for Change (AFC) Member, Charandass Persaud as High Commissioner to India.
Charandass made headlines back in December 2018 when he voted against his own party in the National Assembly to cripple the former APNU+AFC government in a vote of no-confidence. The move saw the David Granger-led administration losing its legal authority as a government, thereby reducing it to a “caretaker” administration. Charandass was immediately whisked away to Canada, where he remained until the PPP/C party won the March General and Regional Elections.
