Police are investigating a robbery under arms committed on 36 year-old, Nandkumar Bahadur, the owner of Kumar Variety Store of De Willem Public Road, West Coast Demerara. The incident occurred sometime around 18:00hrs yesterday at Eccles, East Bank Demerara.
Bahadur told police that he was heading home and stopped at the Eccles Public Road due to heavy traffic at the stoplight. He further stated that two unidentifiable males who were on a motorcycle, suddenly pulled up alongside the vehicle and the pillion rider pointed a gun inside the vehicle demanding money.
Bahadur was shot in the process. He subsequently handed over his haversack containing $500,000 and documents. The two suspects then made good their escape.
The businessman was taken to a city hospital, where he is presently a patient listed as stable but serious.
Investigations are ongoing.
