Six People’s Progressive Party/Civic Councillors attached to the Rosignol/Zeelust Neigbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) have withdrawn their resignation after meeting with PPP/C General Secretary and Vice President, Bharrat Jagdeo.
Prior to their meeting, Opposition Members dubbed the councillors’ resignation as a form of protest against the removal of vendors reportedly at the request of the Local Government and Regional Development Minister, Nigel Dharamlall.
The Councillors, however, did not say what prompted their resignation.
Opposition Member of Parliament, Sherod Duncan, posted to Facebook several days ago: “??? ??????????? ?????? – Region 5, Rosignol / Zeelust NDC, Market Committee Chairman Haimwattie Persaud and five other PPP Councillors resigned earlier today refusing to move itinerant market vendors many of who are women; thus refusing the political instructions of Nigel Dharamlall who has responsibility for Local Government and Regional Development and the PPP government…”
