The Guyana Rice Producers’ Association (RPA) is calling on the Government of Guyana (GoG) to address the payment of approximately US$10M owed to millers by the Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB) for rice supplied to Panama under a Government-to-Government arrangement during the tenure of the David Granger-led administration.
“Some monies have been outstanding since 2018, and all appeals to the former APNU+AFC government fell on deaf ears although the delayed payment is having severely adverse effects on the millers and farmers. And so, the RPA, once again, turns to this PPP/C Government for help, since we have every expectation that the current administration will not fail Guyana’s farmers, because every request for help by the RPA for the farming community has been acceded to by successive PPP/C administrations,” RPA’s General Secretary and PPP/C Parliamentarian, Dharamkumar Seeraj said.
RPA’s call comes five months after Guyana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs dispatched a letter to the Panamanian authorities urging them to honour their obligations to Guyana and to settle their debts.
