Rondell Richards, 22, a laborer of East Ruimveldt, was today charged for the murder of Jomal Adams who was killed a week ago during a quarrel over a cellphone.

He appeared before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Richards was remanded for the capital offense which states that on May 1, at Back Circle East Ruimveldt, he murdered Jomal Adams.

The matter was adjourned until May 25.

Guyana Standard understands that Adams was stabbed to death on Saturday last, with a pair of scissors during an argument he had with an acquaintance over a cell phone.

According to the police, Adams was stabbed twice; once to his left side chest and a second time to his back- sometime around 15:00hrs. The police said Adams was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) but succumbed some 20 minutes later while receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses had told detectives that Adams’ death was over a cellphone row. The police were told that as the argument intensified, Richardson allegedly stabbed Adams to his chest with a sharp object. Adams then ran into a yard, but Richardson chased him and allegedly stabbed him one more time to his back, before dropping his weapon and fleeing the scene.

Adams then collapsed and a piece of metal was allegedly sticking out of his back.

Detectives were able to recover a bloodied pair of scissors with one of its pointed ends broken from the crime scene. They also found a black cellphone with its screen severely cracked and partly covered in blood, the police said.

A wanted bulletin was soon after issued for Richardson.
