Yesterday, about 18:57hrs, acting on information, police stopped minibus #BYY5866 containing 10 passengers and a driver in front of the Fort Wellington Police Station.
The vehicle was escorted into the station’s compound. A search was conducted in the presence of all occupants and the driver.
Under the conductor’s seat, the police unearthed one red, white and blue (Nike) traveling bag which, when opened revealed two wrapped parcels containing cannabis leaves, seeds, and stems.
A written statement given by a passenger stated that the bag belongs to a 34-year-old male passenger who boarded the minibus at Rosignol.
The suspect was told of the offense, arrested, and cautioned. He denied ownership of the bag.
The cannabis was weighed in their presence and amounted to 10 pounds. It was placed in a transparent plastic evidence bag, sealed and lodged.
The suspect remains in custody and the investigation continues.
