A 40-year-old man who was caught on CCTV footage removing money from a parked car, was today charged over the theft.
Seon Douglas was this afternoon arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan read the charge to him.
The man, who told the court that he does mining maintenance, was charged with stealing $75,000 cash, property of Lauren Dundas.
After entering a not guilty plea, the man was remanded to prison until June 23.
The police prosecutor objected to Douglas being released on bail and stated that there is CCTV footage of Douglas entering the motorcar and removing the article. He added that the crime committed is serious.
According to the prosecutor’s facts, the woman secured the money in her purse which was stored in her boyfriend’s car and parked at Albert Street outside the Track sports bar.
However, later that night ranks at the Command Centre reported to the Brickdam Police Station that the defendant was seen entering the vehicle and removing “something”. This led the station to send out a patrol which later found Douglas in the vicinity of the area.
A search was carried out on the man and an improvised Allion car key was found in his possession.
He was cautioned and arrested, hence the charge.
