Talk show host and political activist, Gavin Matthews was today charged with using a computer system to cause damage to the reputation of another person and was released on $100,000 bail.

The 44-year-old of Lot 206 Charlotte Street, Georgetown, was before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. The charge which Matthews pleaded not guilty to states that on March 25, at Georgetown, without legal or lawful justification or excuse, used a computer system to publish electronic data of Charles Ramson Jr. with the intention to damage his reputation and corrupt public morale.

He was released on $100,000 bail and will make his next appearance at the court on June 10.

In April, Matthews was arrested while engaged in a protest at the Square of the Revolution. He filmed the entire encounter with the police, up until he was taken to the Brickdam Police Station.

Matthews was arrested for allegedly committing a cybercrime during one of his shows. On the show, the commentator called Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Jr., a terrorist and a murderer. His utterances were derogatory and caused the Minister ’emotional distress’, Matthews was told by one of the arresting officers.

Matthews was later placed on $100,000 station bail.
