As of yesterday, some 205,944 persons received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. This represents 42.3% of the adult population. Meanwhile, the number of those fully immunised is 72,045 or 14.8% of the over-18 population, says Guyana’s Health Minister, Dr Frank Anthony.

The regional breakdown of first dose is as follows:

Region One – 46.6%
Region Two – 40.3%
Region Three – 42.6%
Region Four – 43.2%
Region Five – 46.5%
Region Six – 50.2%
Region Seven – 42.3%
Region Eight – 27.5%
Region Nine – 40.5%
Region Ten – 12.4%

Minister Anthony said that the two ‘outlier’ regions, Eight and Ten, continue to pose a challenge for the ministry.
He noted that one of the challenges to increased vaccination in Region Eight is the flooding, while the ‘persistent’ problem in Region 10 is vaccine hesitancy. Despite these setbacks, the Minister said that his ministry will continue to work.
