Collins Smartt, called ‘Rastaman’, 36, of Little Africa, Corentyne, Berbice is now a patient at the New Amsterdam Hospital after he was assaulted last night at Number 79 Village.
Enquiries disclosed that Smartt went to the home of a couple, whom he alleges to be drug dealers, to purchase marijuana.
On arrival there, the male suspect asked him for $160 which he had owed on a previous transaction. As a result, an argument ensued between himself and the duo.
The male suspect then armed himself with a cutlass and dealt the victim one chop to his right hand, severing his index finger and causing damage to his middle finger.
The female suspect then dealt the victim several lashes to his back with a piece of wood causing him to receive additional injuries.
Smartt was escorted to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where he was seen and examined and later transferred to New Amsterdam Hospital. Investigations are ongoing.
