Elizabeth Henry, 32, of Onderneeming Sand Pit, Essequibo Coast found her one-year-old son, Jeremiah Norton, dead in a fish pond yesterday.
Enquiries disclosed that Henry left the child with his two other siblings in the house while she was washing clothes. At about 09:30hrs, she decided to go check on them, only to discover Jeremiah missing. She later found the child floating in a fish pond situated about 300 feet from her house.
He was rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body was examined for marks of violence but none was found. The body was then transported to the Charity Public Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
