Following a shooting at Meadowbrook Gardens which had police on the hunt for two suspects, a businessman was today charged and remanded.
Derwin Bennons of Lot 298 Meadowbrook Drive, Georgetown, made his appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Court One of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
It is alleged that on July 28, 2021, at Bamboo Drive Meadowbrook Gardens, Georgetown, while in the company of another, he discharged a loaded firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, maim or disfigure.
He was remanded until September 22, after being read the indictable charge.
According to the Guyana Police Force, at 22:30 hrs, two men were reportedly on a motorcycle, when they rode up to the location at Bamboo Drive and opened fire while the man was about to lock his gate.
The police said that the victim and one of the suspects are known to each other and have a matter pending in court. The police further said that the man observed the motorcycle pull up in front of his residence and recognized the man.
The man reported to the police that the pillion rider dismounted and discharged several rounds in his direction, after which he re-mounted the waiting motorcycle and made good his escape.
Greene did not suffer any injuries, however, he was not present at court today.
