Police are investigating a serious accident that occurred yesterday afternoon at Hyde Park Parika Access Road, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), involving motorcar, PXX 9412, owned and driven by Lorna Boodhoo, 55, of St. Lawrence E.B.E and a three-year-old female pedestrian.

Enquiries disclosed that the motorcar was proceeding west along the southern side of the road when it was alleged by the driver that the pedestrian, who was unsupervised, ran across the road from north to south into the path of the car.

On observing this, the driver took evasive action by swerving in the southern direction to avoid a collision, but the right side front fender of the car collided with the child.

As a result of the collision, the pedestrian fell onto the road surface where she received injuries about her body. She was picked up in a conscious state by her mother and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital. She was later transferred to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where she was further examined and admitted a patient suffering from a fractured left leg. Her condition is regarded as stable.

A breathalyzer test was administered to the driver and no alcohol was found in her breath.

Investigation is ongoing.
