Leader of the People’s National Congress (PNC), David Granger has clarified that he is still with the party. Yesterday, the nation read that the former President had stepped away from the party, and that the Chairperson, Volda Lawrence had taken his place. But Granger said today that he is tired and needs some time off.
“I have taken leave of absence from the 1st of September, and I did this because I have been on the go for over 10 years. As you know, I started campaigning since 2010, and in 2011, I was elected as the Presidential Candidate for the People’s National Congress. And that’s 10 years ago. After that, I became the Candidate for the Partnership for National Unity. APNU was founded in July 2011, and I went into three election campaigns: 2011, 2015, 2020. I went into three Local Government Election Campaigns…And I was Leader of the Opposition and President of Guyana. So, it has been a hectic decade for me, and I feel at this time, I have to go on vacation,” he said.
Granger assured his supporters and party colleagues that he will return.
“I just need to rest. I haven’t resigned from the People’s National Congress. I haven’t demitted office. I’ve just gone on leave…So, there’s nothing surreptitious about my going on leave, and I just want to spend some quiet time with my wife and look forward to returning to my job.”
