Local Promoter “Bajan” was denied bail after being charged in relation to an operation carried out last week by Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU).
36-year-old Dexter Morris also known as ‘Bajan’, of Lamaha Street, Alberttown, was today remanded by Magistrate Clive Nurse after he denied a trafficking of narcotics charge.
It is alleged that on August 27, at Campbellville Housing Scheme, he had in his possession, 210 kilograms of cannabis for trafficking. The charge was read to him when he attended the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and was remanded until September 22.
Morris was represented by attorney-at-law Latchmie Rahamat, who made an application for reasonable bail to be granted however Prosecutor Shellon Daniels objected to bail. Her objection was on the grounds of the circumstances that led to his arrest. She explained that a wanted bulletin had to be issued before Morris presented himself to the police.
Morris is the third of three men charged in relation to a bust that was carried out by CANU. The two other persons: Joseph Wilkinson called `Dreddy’ and Ajay Mahadeo, 25, who were arrested in relation to the find were on Tuesday charged and remanded to prison. Like Morris, the men denied the allegation and are expected to make their next court appearance on October 6th.
In a brief statement, CANU had said that the discovery was made during a joint operation with members of the Guyana Police Force. According to the agency, a search was conducted at two locations within the Campbell Avenue area and a Route 32 (Georgetown-Parika) minibus was also searched.
