The body of 18-year-old Swedel Williams, a labourer of Moruca, Region One, was found floating in the Essequibo River at Bonasika around 15;45hrs yesterday afternoon.
Guyana Standard understands that Williams was recently employed by Eribuwan Looknauth, a 66-year-old farmer of Zeeburg West Coast Demerara to work on his farm at Bonasika, along with ten other workers.
Yesterday around 15:00hrs, Williams left the farm and went for a swim in the river but never returned. Another coworker observed that the teen was missing and went in search of him. Whilst checking the creek he saw the teen’s body floating in the river face down.
An alarm was raised and with assistance of residents in the area, the body was fished out of the creek.
The Police were summoned and the body was examined but no marks of violence were seen. He was pronounced dead at the Leonora Cottage Hospital.
The body was escorted to Ezekiel Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
