A Brazilian national is now dead after he was stabbed by a fellow countryman at Central Baramita, North West District yesterday, police say.
The victim has only been identified as “Neguon/ Negung”, whose particulars are unknown at this time. The suspect is a 35-year-old Brazilian male, at large.
Enquiries disclosed that the men were involved in gold mining at the Venezuela/Guyana borders, and whilst working, the duo had a misunderstanding over a quantity of raw gold which led to frequent threats to each other but same was never reported to the police.
On the aforementioned date about 20:30 hours, the men were consuming alcohol at Central Baramita North West District in the vicinity of Johnny Phillips’ Hotel, when they ended up in a heated argument. The suspect allegedly stabbed the victim several times to his chest and rib area.
He then made good his escape on foot.
The victim was rushed to Baramita Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by the medex on duty. His body is at the Baramita Health Centre and will be escorted to the Port Kaituma Mortuary for storage and post-mortem examination.
A report was made to Baramita Police Station and the alleged murder weapon was recovered at the scene.
Ranks are presently on a hunt for the suspect.
