Sunil Sopoi, 30, a Boat Builder of Grant 1782 Crabwood Creek Corentyne, Berbice, is now a patient at the New Amsterdam Hospital following an altercation in his village on Sunday last.
The suspect, a 63-year-old male, is in custody.
Enquiries disclosed that the victim and the suspect argued over the suspect hitting one of the victim’s goats.
It is alleged that the Sopoi was armed with a piece of wood, while the suspect was armed with two pieces of wood that had nails on them. The suspect delivered several lashes to the 30-year-old.
The suspect later pulled out a cutlass from the waist of his pants and dealt Sopoi several lashes about his body and head causing him to receive further injuries.
As a result, public-spirited persons intervened and later rushed the victim to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where he was treated by a doctor on duty and later transferred to New Amsterdam Public Hospital and was admitted a patient.
Investigations are ongoing.
