Sudesh Charran, 22, a labourer of Lot 3964 Westminster, West Bank Demerara, died yesterday after he was pinned by a metal lift at F & R Supermarket, Stelling Road, Vreed-en-Hoop.
Enquiries disclosed that the victim was walking under the lift to go into the supermarket when it fell from the upper flat and pinned him to the ground of the lower flat.
As a result, workers rushed to his assistance and used a piece of wood and jack and raised the metal lift. They then managed to pull the victim out but by this time he was motionless and a large wound was seen to the top of his head.
The Police were summoned, and the body of the victim was escorted to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty. The body was then escorted to the Ezekiel Parlour for storage awaiting a Post Mortem Examination with dissection.
The investigation is in progress.
