Two West Coast Demerara (WCD) residents were arrested yesterday for illegal diversion of electricity after cops nabbed them with wires and meters belonging to the Guyana Power and Light (GPL).
The items were confiscated following an investigation operation conducted at La Jalousie and Cornelia Ida.
Acting on information, the officials proceeded to a La Jalousie home, where they discovered a quantity of GPL electric wires and a GPL meter. A male resident was questioned but failed to provide a “reasonable” explanation about how he acquired the items, police said. He was immediately arrested.
Acting on further information, the team proceeded to a Cornelia Ida West Coast Demerara address, where they found wires and another meter, property of GPL. Another male resident was arrested.
Investigations are ongoing.
