Veronica Lewis, 78, of Lot 411 Grove, East Bank Demerara was struck down and killed yesterday morning as she was walking along Lamaha Street, Georgetown.
Police sources say the incident occurred around 04:50hrs as she was standing on the southern side of the road in the vicinity of Waterloo Street.
The unknown vehicle that struck her down failed to stop. She was left lying on the road’s surface with severe head and other injuries about her body.
The Ambulance Service was contacted and arrived shortly on scene. She was subsequently pronounced dead.
Her body was escorted by the police to Memorial Gardens Funeral Parlour mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.
Further investigations are ongoing.
