Investigations are being conducted into the circumstances surrounding the death of prisoner Julian Harrison, 25, of La Bonne Intention, East Coast Demerara, who was found hanging in his cell at the Beterverwagting Police Station around 16:35hrs, Wednesday.
Harrison was arrested by the police earlier in the day, as a suspect in a matter of break and enter and larceny.
During one of the visits to the lockups by the ranks, Harrison, who was the only prisoner in the lockups, was found hanging by his neck from a metal bar vent by his jersey. The jersey had been stripped into long pieces and then tied together, the police said last night.
Harrison was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
