Six persons are now dead and three injured following a triple-vehicle smashup at Ross Village, West Coast Berbice (WCB) at 03:30hrs today.
According to police, the accident involved motorcar PNN 3536 driven by Lindon McFarlane, 23, of Number 22 Village, West Coast (WCB); motorcar PYY 4293 owned and driven by Gary Blair, 44, of Lot 661 Section D Turkeyen Georgetown; and motorcar PWW 208 driven by 30-year-old, Akeem Solomon of Lot 30, Number Four Village WCB.
Enquiries disclosed that motorcar PYY 4293 and PWW 208 were proceeding west along the southern side of the road at a fast rate of speed, while motorcar PNN 3536 was proceeding east at a fast rate of speed when the collision occurred.
Motorcar PNN 3536, according to police, burst into flames on collision while extensive damage was done to all three vehicles.
As a result of the collision, occupants Jamal Lynch, 22, of 22 Belair WCB, and Jashaun Saul, 19, of Number 22 Village, WCB, who were both were in motorcar PNN 3536, were taken out of the vehicle along with the driver, and transported to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital, where they were seen and examined by a doctor who pronounced all dead on arrival.
Occupants in motorcar PYY 4293 were Joel Jacobs, 29, of Lot 661 Section D Turkeyen Georgetown; Brian Goodridge also 29 of Lot 39 Public Road, East Coast Demerara; Keanna Daw, 22, of Lot 329 Number 29 Village, WCB. They were taken out of the vehicle along with the driver and taken to Forth Wellington Public Hospital. The driver, Dow and Jacobs were seen and examined by a doctor, who pronounced them dead on arrival.
Brian Goodridge was treated and referred to New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was further examined and treated and referred to Georgetown Public hospital. Occupant, Fiona Massiah, 20, of Number 28 Village, WCB and the driver were taken out of the vehicle PWW208 and taken to the Mahaicony Public Hospital where it was discovered that the driver received head injuries, and the occupant a fractured leg.
