The Guyana Fire Service is investigating the circumstances which led to a fire on the Essequibo Coast today.
The Fire Department was made aware of the fire at 13:26 hrs and Water Tenders #77 and #88 from the Anna Regina Fire Station were immediately dispatched to the Lot 91 Walton Hall location.
The building involved was a one- flat wooden building, owned by Ramdass Samdass who resided there with his partner Serogene Persaud.
As a result of the fire, 57-year-old Ramdass Samdass tragically lost his life and the entire building and its contents were destroyed.
Investigations are underway to ascertain what caused the fire.
Two lines working from Water Tender #88 tank supply were used to extinguish the fire.
The GFS is once again urging citizens to equip their homes with smoke detectors and fire extinguishers and to be careful when cooking or using electrical appliances.
