Simone Edwards, a 31-year-old security guard is now nursing a fractured skull and broken arm following a dreadful encounter with her partner earlier this evening. According to preliminary reports from the Guyana Police Force, the victim and the suspect were living together with their four children for six years; a period that was plagued by domestic issues.
Around 17: 00 hours at their Block 22, Wismar, Linden home, a quarrel between the couple escalated to a tragic level.
According to the victim’s 14-year-old son, his mother and the suspect returned from work together but subsequently headed to the eastern side of the house to converse. He said the suspect went into the house briefly, then returned to Edwards to continue their conversation.
The 14-year-old said their voices got louder but it was difficult to comprehend clearly what they were saying as he was engaged in a video on his computer, the volume of which was considerably loud as well.
The teenager said he suddenly heard his mother screaming and ran to her aid.
The teen told ranks that he saw his mother lying face down and motionless with the suspect standing over her and dealing several blows to her head. The 14-year-old said he ran for a cutlass but when he tried to defend his mother, the suspect threw a long piece of wood at him then made good his escape.
Public-spirited persons were quickly alerted and the suspect was caught and beaten before being handed over to the police.
Guyana Standard understands that the victim was escorted to the Linden Hospital Complex where she was admitted in a critical condition.
The suspect, who was also seen by a doctor for the injuries that followed his sound thrashing, remains a patient under police guard.
Investigations into this matter are ongoing.
