Head of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Jermaine Figueria confirmed with Guyana Standard today that Bar Association Head, Pauline Chase is the lone female among four other persons to head the Public Procurement Commission (PPC).
Other members are Economist and former Chairman of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), Rawle Lucas; Financial Analyst, Joel Bhagwandin; former Head of the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB), Berkeley Wickham; and Rajnarine Singh.
Figueira said those persons were agreed upon by government and the political opposition from a list of approximately 25 persons.
While the PAC head is pleased that this process of agreement on the shortlisted candidates is finally over, with appointments to soon follow, he is desirous of seeing other critical constitutional bodies given a new lease on life.
He nonetheless extended his congratulations to the persons to be appointed.
The PPC is one of the most critical constitutional bodies as it monitors public procurement to ensure the principles of fairness, equity, value for money, and competition are upheld. The Commission also ensures that the procedures of public procurement are executed in accordance with the laws of Guyana.
The life of the last PPC ended since 2019.
