Eight ranks from the Guyana Fire Service’s Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Division today completed stage one of their Advanced Emergency Medical Services Training.
The exercise was held at the Project Dawn facility and was conducted by Dr. Shannon Langston, M.D. and Andrea Fletcher, EMT-P, R.N. of Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Tennessee.
Over the next four months, the trainees will be engaged in Zoom sessions and other practical sessions before completing the course and becoming certified.
During brief remarks, Minister of Home Affairs, Robeson Benn said the Emergency Medical Services will soon be extended to Regions 3 and 5.
He thanked the facilitators and stated that training is necessary to pass on the skills and expertise required by first responders.
To the trainees, Minister Benn said, “Be an agent of change with the aim of handing over a peaceful and better life to the next generation”.
Chief Fire Officer (Ag), Gregory Wickham also expressed gratitude to the facilitators and admonished the trainees to use the knowledge gained to improve the Emergency Medical Services and better serve the citizens of Guyana.
Station Officer with responsibility for Emergency Medical Services, Azumah Roberts; Finance Officer, Patrick Daniels; Chief Emergency Medical Technician, Nandaram Dat and EMS Officer, Bhumika Sookdeo were all present for the conclusion of this stage of the training exercise.
