Manual strangulation has been given as the cause of death of a driver whose body was found afloat in the Mazaruni River yesterday. The post-mortem examination was conducted by Government Pathologist, Dr Nehaul Singh.
Police say that 69-year-old, Pitamber Sharma, a lorry driver, was found dead yesterday in the Mazaruni River, not far from his place of employment, BK Quarries, hours after he reported to work.
Sharma, of Independence St. La Grange, West Coast Demerara, upon his arrival to work around 14:30hrs on March 30, was assigned his quarters. He was last seen alive about four hours later dwelling in the compound.
The following morning, around 07:30hrs, a security guard discovered his body afloat in the Mazaruni River in the vicinity of the security base.
The initial police report said that Sharma’s body had no marks of violence.
