Kyree Anderson, a 14-year-old of #1 Public Road Corentyne Berbice is set to undergo surgery at the Georgetown Public Hospital for injuries he sustained in a serious accident on Wednesday on the Fyrish Public Road in Corentyne, Berbice.
The accident occurred about 23:10hrs, and involved motorcar PXX 350 that was driven by 25-year-old Surendranauth Gopaul of Auchlyne Estate, Corentyne; and motorcar PNN 9096, driven at the time by Anderson.
Anderson does not have a Driver’s Licence as he is not yet 16-years-old which is the legal limit to obtain such a licence.
Police enquiries disclosed that the vehicle driven by the teen was rammed from behind by PNN 9096.
This caused the teen to lose control of the vehicle and collided with a lamp pole which is situated on the southern grass parapet.
As a result of the collision, the teen was taken out of the vehicle in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was treated and due to the serious nature of his condition, he was referred to Georgetown Public Hospital for further medical attention.
Breathalyzer tests were conducted on Surendranauth Gopaul and the readings given were 133 and 126 micrograms of alcohol (way above the legal limit).
Both vehicles were lodged to be examined by a Licensing and Certifying Officer.
Investigations are ongoing.
