A 35-year-old Venezuelan national, Francisco Simosa of Sarah Johanna, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was killed in an accident yesterday in his village.
Enquiries disclosed that the pedestrian was standing facing north on the eastern parapet of the public road, when a reversing motor lorry, GYY 6047, struck him down.
It was reported that one of the rear wheels ran over Simosa.
He was picked up by police ranks and public-spirited citizens in an unconscious condition and escorted to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, East Bank Demerara.
Simosa was pronounced dead on arrival. The body was then escorted to the Carmen’s Funeral Home, Little Diamond East Bank Demerara for storage.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver and revealed 0% alcohol in his system. He remains in custody assisting with further investigations.
