Police are investigating a shooting incident and attempted arson attack on a 39-year-old vendor of ‘B’ Field Reserve Dam in Sophia. The incident occurred around 00:30hrs on Friday.
According to the police, the victim was at home with his wife and two children when he smelled smoke and was awoken. He discovered smoke on the southern side of his house and opened the door to investigate. That’s when he encountered an unidentifiable male who immediately fled the scene.
Shortly after, the victim heard a loud explosion that sounded like a gunshot and began to feel a burning sensation in his right hip. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit, where he is currently receiving treatment. His condition is said to be stable.
Upon inspection of the scene, the police found a suspected 9mm spent shell and scorched southern door. Investigations are ongoing.
