One of three men who were recently charged with drunk driving along the Essequibo Coast was disqualified from operating a vehicle for two years.
Fazal Andrews of Lima Public Road, Essequibo Coast, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol committed on February 19, 2023, on the Richmond Public Road, Essequibi Coast. He also appeared in court on Wednesday last and pleaded guilty. He was fined $50,000 and barred from operating a vehicle for 24 months.
Allan Baharally, a 46-year-old resident of Charity Housing Scheme, was also charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on the New Road Public Road, Essequibo Coast, on February 21, 2023. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of $30,000. The case was adjourned until April 24, 2023.
Govindra Gobin, a resident of West Columbia Public Road, Essequibo Coast, was charged with the offence of driving under the influence of alcohol committed on March 17, 2023, on the Reliance Public Road. He appeared in court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty. He was subsequently fined $60,000 or one-week imprisonment.
