Following the hosting of its 133rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) virtually last Wednesday, the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) elected a new 21-member council which will serve for the year 2023/2024.
Prominent businessman and owner of Dapper Technologies, Kester Hutson, has been elected as the Chamber’s new President, replacing Timothy Tucker, who held the position for the past two years.
Joining him on the newly elected Executive Member Committee (EMC) are its Senior Vice President, Richard Rambarran who is the former Executive Director of the Chamber and Country Manager of NCB Capital Markets; Junior Vice President, Gavin Ramsoondar of Zarc Properties Inc; Secretary, Kathy Smith of Dover Waterproofing Technologies Inc; and Treasurer, Orson Ferguson of GTT Business Solutions.
During the AGM, Junior Minister of Public Works, Deodat Indar, who is also past President of the Chamber, delivered an address, where he commended the previous council for its dedicated work in the year 2022/2023.
He emphasized to them that Guyana was fortunate to discover oil and gas in 2015, and the role industry plays is vital in supporting the traditional sectors of the country. According to Indar, “This new industry is generating different interest in Guyana and a different type of business environment is now a reality. So we have to deal with that reality, we have to understand the reality and then we have to plan for what the future would be like.”
Due to this, he said the business community needs to pay attention to the various sectors so its members will know where to channel their investments, and try as best as possible to disversify their services offered.
The other newly elected council members are immediate past President, Timothy Tucker (Rid-O-Pes), Shaleeza Shaw (Opulent Consultancy Inc.),
