Executive Member of the Working People’s Alliance (WPA), Tacuma Ogunseye this morning presented himself to the Criminal Investigations Department [CID] after a wanted bulletin was issued for his arrest for crimes pertaining to inciting racial hostility.
Accompanied by his attorneys, Darren Wade and Nigel Hughes, Ogunseye told media operatives, before going into CID on Vlissingen Road, Georgetown, that he is not afraid of what will come next. In fact, he noted that he still stands by his comments which landed him in hot water.
“I am defending the dignity of this country and I am defending the legacy of Walter Rodney. Regardless of what they throw at me, I am prepared to fight… the name Ogunseye means the God of War,” Ogunseye said.
After being held for about an hour, Ogunseye was then taken to the Brickdam Police Station in shackles; escorted by CID several ranks.
Meanwhile, Attorney Hughes said that inside CID, charges relating to inciting racial hostility were read to Ogunseye. He noted that questions posed to the rank who read the charges did not receive favourable responses.
“He could not say who is leading the investigation or who is even going to be questioning Mr. Ogunseye…” Hughes said. He noted too, that the reluctance to provide information, is nothing new. The lawyer said he did not feel the need to be worried about the situation. Hughes said that he requested from the rank that he be present during questioning.
