The Machinery Corporation of Guyana Ltd (MACORP), will be celebrating its 12th Trainee Technician Graduation Ceremony this Friday (June 8, 2018), at its Providence, East Bank Demerara location.
This annual event will see nine persons being accredited following a one-year training program, where they were equipped with the knowledge, and skills necessary to carry out recommended maintenance procedures as Caterpillar Certified Technicians.
Speaking to the Guyana Standard today (June 7, 2018), the company’s Marketing Assistant, Kevin Bacchus, noted that the training was aimed at providing the candidates with industry-standard training. These skills he added, will serve them well in their mechanical fields and at the same time, give the local mechanical maintenance sector a much-needed boost. Bacchus said that the training was provided free of cost.
Explaining the selection process, the spokesperson said that notices including vacancies were advertised, which followed the regular enlisting protocols.
“The applicants were screened. Interviews and assessments were conducted, as well as technical assessments. Our trainees did exceptionally well.” Bacchus said.
He informed the Guyana Standard that persons desirous of receiving training can visit their 26 Providence location to apply.
“There are some requirements of course…Such as technical or mechanical background from one of Guyana’s Technical Institution. We also offer Safety Training for this sector along with Contamination Control and Excavator Operator training.”
The trainees that will be graduating this Friday are Marcus Benjamin, Trevor Chichester, Jollian Dawson, Akeem Hector, Mark Hiraman, Rayon Lee, Teon McKenzie, Judah Pancham and Allaicai Ross.
At the end of one year, the graduates will be absorbed into the company’s workforce.
