A Zeelugt Housing Scheme man was arrested today by officers attached to the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) with close to 30 lbs of cannabis concealed in bricks.

In a release to the media, CANU said its officers intercepted a motor vehicle with a male occupant, bearing registration number, HB 5990, at Zeelugt New Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo.

A subsequent search was conducted on the said vehicle in the presence of the occupant, which led to the discovery of (12) brick-like parcels suspected to be cannabis.

Pradesh Hardwar, 51 years of Zeelugt Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, was arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the suspected narcotics. It was tested and discovered to be imported cannabis, a variety known as “poppy” weighing approximately 30 lbs. (13.4 kg). The street value of the drugs is said to be approximately $5M.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
