The Guyana Police Force is expected to make a formal request for the extradition of a couple at the center of the senseless murder of a young Police Constable whose remains were unearthed from a Madewini sandpit along the Linden Soesdyke Highway. A usually reliable source confirmed this with Guyana Standard.
Based on the confession given to detectives yesterday by two male suspects, it is alleged that the men were hired by the husband to kill Police Constable, Quincy Lewis, whose body was later dumped in a shallow grave. The men told detectives that his wife had an affair with the policeman. After learning of this, the enraged husband allegedly orchestrated a plan to lure the policeman to her home where the murder was reportedly carried out.
The source said that from all indications, after Lewis was reported missing in 2020 by relatives, the couple subsequently left Guyana. The source said that the police force will be making a formal request for the extradition of both the husband and wife to answer questions and face charges in relation to the murder.
Lewis’ remains were found in a shallow grave yesterday after detectives on the case made a massive breakthrough with the investigation. Two men were arrested and confessed to carrying out the harrowing incident.
The alleged confession brings closure to a three year long investigation.
Lewis was last seen alive on the afternoon of June 19, 2020, when he left in his friend’s car, PTT 7541, to report for work. On June 26, 2020, Lewis’ family filed a ‘missing person’ report at the La Parfaite Harmonie Police Station after he failed to turn up to his post at the Agricola Police Station.
An investigation was launched and a review of CCTV footage of various points on the Demerara Harbour Bridge showed that Lewis did cross it, presumably on his way to work. A few months later, Lewis’ cell phone was found along Timehri, East Bank Demerara (EBD) Public Road, with the screen cracked.
