A 33-year-old electrician from Graham Street, Better Hope, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was caught by the police with 2,000 grams of suspected cannabis (marijuana) on Wednesday morning. The bust took place at the Berbice River Bridge access road, following intelligence received by police officers.
Around 5:30 am, officers approached the suspect, identified as Dominic Bernard Jones, who was carrying a black haversack. Upon being identified as police officers, they requested to search the bag, which Jones allowed.
Upon inspection, the officers found two bulky parcels wrapped in plastic, suspected to be cannabis (marijuana). Each parcel contained seeds, leaves, and stems. Jones was immediately arrested, cautioned and taken to the Central Police Station, along with the suspected narcotics, which weighed 2,000 grams.
The suspect, who is an electrician, is currently in police custody and expected to be charged shortly. The police continue to investigate the matter.
