A 24-year-old pork-knocker from Hyde Park, Timehri, East Bank Demerara (EBD), Kwasi Michelle was allegedly murdered at Jaw Bone Backdam, North West District (NWD) two days ago.
Regional Division #1 Police are investigating the case, and the suspect, Quason Frank, also known as ‘Lethem Man,’ a 27-year-old pork-knocker from Annai Village, North Rupununi, was arrested at the scene by public-spirited residents and is currently in police custody.
Upon arriving at the scene, investigators found a makeshift camp measuring approximately 12 feet by 14 feet in length and width. Further investigation revealed that the suspect and the victim were in an intimate relationship with a 16-year-old female school drop-out from Baramita, NWD.
According to reports, on May 1 at around 12:30 am, the suspect and the female got into an argument, after which the young woman went to the victim’s camp to sleep in his hammock. At approximately 2:00 am on the same day, the female felt an impact on her head and saw the suspect holding a sharp object, which he allegedly used to stab the victim in the left side chest and right hand.
The victim fled his camp and collapsed on Jaw Bone Landing, where bystanders assisted him in getting to the Baramita Health Centre, NWD. The attending doctor pronounced him dead on arrival. The victim’s body was then escorted to the Port Kaituma Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, the suspect was nabbed and assaulted by members of the public before being handed over to the police. Upon interrogation, he admitted to his involvement in the alleged murder of the victim. The investigation is ongoing.
