For the first time in over 30 years, mining agreements for large scale gold, manganese and bauxite projects have been made public.
In fact, five mineral agreements are now available on the Ministry of Finance’s website for public scrutiny. These contracts are as follows :
1. Aurora – Mineral Agreement
2. GGMC and Reunion Manganese Inc. Mineral Agreement
3. GGMC, First Bauxite & Guyana Industrial Minerals Inc. Mineral Agreement
4. Karouni – Mineral Agreement
5. Toroparu – Mineral Agreement.
The website also lists several mining licences as follows:

The foregoing release follows a commitment made by Vice President, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo to have these documents placed in the public domain. At previous press conferences, he had told sections of the press that Senior Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh would be consulted before having these agreements released to ensure there are no violations of proprietary information contained therein.
The release of these mineral agreements also brings Guyana into compliance with its obligations under the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).
It is also in keeping with the government’s commitment to increase transparency and accountability within the mining industry.
