The man accused of murdering Sir Kirwyn Mars last week has been remanded to prison. Twenty-four year-old Brian Richards was not required to plead to the indictable charge.

Richards was arraigned before Magistrate Suni Scarce at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court for the capital offence of murder. The matter was adjourned to June 23. The preliminary inquiry into the matter will commence on August 7.

An autopsy revealed that Mars died of ‘crush injuries to chest’ compounded by ‘multiple cutaneous wounds’. The exam with dissection was conducted by Government Pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh.

Dr Singh stated in his findings: “Evidence of both sharp and blunt force injuries with crush injuries to the chest. Eight (8) stab wounds about the body — upper left chest, right shoulder, upper left collarbone, left hand, right elbow, and left upper chest.”

Sir Mars was killed last Sunday night after he was crushed and run over by a car driven by a man with whom he was at a bar hours before the accident. The incident occurred at Perseverance, East Bank Demerara.
