A routine check by police ranks from Regional Division 7 led to the arrest of a Wismar man who was caught with more than 2 lbs of marijuana.
On Tuesday, at the Sherima Police Station, authorities halted motor lorry GXX 340, which was owned and driven by Gladwyn King, a 44-year-old driver from Sophia, Georgetown. Accompanying King was Kester Gilkes, a 29-year-old resident of Blue Berry Hill, Wismar, Linden.
During the inspection, both the vehicle and its occupants were subjected to a thorough search. It was during this process that the police discovered two bulky transparent parcels in Gilkes’ haversack. The parcels contained marijuana leaves, seeds, and stems.
Gilkes was promptly informed of the offence, cautioned, and subsequently arrested. He later claimed ownership of the drug.
He was then escorted to the Bartica Police Station, where the marijuana amounted to 1,019 grams.
Gilkes remains in custody at the Bartica Police Station, awaiting formal charges. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
