A 48-year-old carpenter, identified as Hamid Amin, also known as “Peppy”, has been charged with murdering his niece’s fiancee, 23-year-old Shivram Mohabir, 23.
Amin was apprehended on May 29, 2023, following the stabbing at 5th Street, Martyr’s Ville, East Coast Demerara.
During the court hearing presided over by Magistrate Ms. George, Amin had the indictable charge of murder read to him. He did not enter a plea and was subsequently remanded to prison. The case has been adjourned until August 2, 2023, for a progress report.
According to reports, Mohabir was present at his fiancée’s residence when he was stabbed. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition. Regrettably, despite medical efforts, Mohabir succumbed to his injuries at approximately 21:55 hrs that same night.
