Police are investigating the murder committed on 24-year-old Tevon Daymon, a private in the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) attached to 21 Artillery Company. He resided at Lot 198 Block X Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara.
The incident occurred on Monday about 04:45hrs at Base Camp Stephenson by a 25-year-old male suspect who has since been arrested.
Enquiries revealed that the victim and the suspect became involved in an argument and the victim allegedly removed the magazine from the rifle he was carrying and hit the suspect to his head, causing him to receive injuries before running away.
The suspect who was armed with an AK rifle and 30 matching rounds, discharged 27 rounds from his rifle in the victim’s direction. Private Daymon then collapsed.
He was escorted to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was pronounced dead at 07:09hrs. The body was escorted to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
The suspect was handed over to police and is assisting with further investigations
