The skeletal remains found at Madewini, Region Four last April are those of police Constable, Quincy Lewis, DNA testing has revealed.
On April 19, 2023, a team of Forensic investigators from the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters were dispatched to an abandoned sandpit at Madewini on the Linden Soesdyke Highway, where the remains believed to be those of the missing cop were recovered.
The bones were later examined by a Forensic Pathologist and confirmed to be those of a male of African ancestry between the ages of 21 and 40 with an estimated height of 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall.
However, due to the advanced state of decomposition of the remains, the process of positive identification was not possible without DNA testing.
As a consequence, samples were obtained from the close relatives of the deceased and were thereafter sent overseas for testing.
On completion of the testing process, the results confirmed the remains to be those of Constable Quincy Lewis.
Lewis went missing in mid-June 2020. His death is believed to have stemmed from an affair with a woman.
The force later issued wanted bulletins for a couple. The duo has been identified as Thakurdial Samaroo, 56, of Lot 7 Ogle Front Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD) and Naqueeba Zahid Zafarali also known as Naqueeba Zafarali of the same address.
The couple had reportedly fled the jurisdiction but the Force in April of this year committed to using all legal avenues for extradition.
