Cops on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD) are conducting an investigation into a fatal accident that occurred on the Diamond Public Road at around 02:30hrs on Sunday.
Dead is Ishmael Cort, a 30-year-old resident of Lot 33 North East Grove, East Bank Demerara. He was driving a white Toyota Axio with licence plate number #PAD 8961.
According to initial reports, the vehicle’s owner, Keyah Cort, aged 33, parked the car at his residence around 11:30 PM on Saturday, August 5, 2023, and retired for the night. Around 3:05 AM on Sunday morning, Keyah Cort received distressing news that his vehicle had been involved in an accident on Little Diamond Public Road. Upon checking, he realized that the vehicle was missing from its parked location.
Keyah Cort swiftly made his way to the scene of the incident. Upon arrival, he was met with a distressing sight: his brother Ishmael’s vehicle, severely damaged at the front, laying on the road. It was revealed that Ishmael Cort had collided with a culvert, resulting in him being trapped in the vehicle in an unconscious state. Quick-thinking and courageous members of the public came to his aid, freeing him from the wreckage before he was transported to the Diamond Hospital.
Medical professionals at the Diamond Hospital attended to Ishmael Cort’s injuries, but due to the severity of his condition, he was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for more advanced medical care. Despite the efforts of the medical team, Ishmael Cort succumbed to his injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Investigations are ongoing.
